Through the eyes of a child
14 May 2009
For 12 years now we have happily been sharing our hospital with Grace Academy kindergarteners. This year, 45 of them along with two teachers and several parents visited us recently on a sunny spring day.
From Dr. Turfle and Carly introducing all of our guests to a very interesting assortment of X-rays--including some of Ruggles Bear, our surgery patient, who had somehow managed to eat all kinds of strange things...

to Dr. Sollenberger, ably-assisted by Michele, performing surgery on Ruggles Bear to find and remove a comb, pen, staple remover, some coins and a fork from his very fluffy tummy,

...to Petra and Liz sharing the importance of taking professional care of pets' teeth, too, including digital X-rays to find problems below the gums,
...to Beth, her wonderful dog Sherman (one of amazing Grace's grandsons), and Rachel getting to the heart of the matter by outfitting the children with stethoscopes to check out what really makes Sherman (and themselves!) tick,

...we all had an abolutely wonderful time introducing an inquisitive, enthusiastic, well-behaved group of children to what we do and why we do it. Pets create an amazing and rewarding connection between all shapes, sizes and ages of P-E-O-P-L-E!
Thanks for coming Grace Academy--see you next year!
