Passages...for Pets and their Families
09 Mar 2009
There are those times when we come face-to-face-to-whiskers with a longtime Petparent, an aged Pet and a very difficult decision.
Recently widowed after 65(!) years of marriage, a distinguished, hard-working Petparent was on the verge of a major lifestyle change due to, simply put, a broken heart.
Prayer and pastoral advice led to a decision to leave the home the couple had shared for all those decades and move closer to their children in another state.
Unfortunately the dear Pet, a.k.a. the loyal companion of the deceased spouse, had been having her own health problems for several years, too. Though managed with good care and consistent medication, each day was becoming more of a struggle for her 15 year old body to just move around.
So in the midst of ever-present grief, the Petparent had to ponder what would be best for such a faithful Pet under all of the circumstances.
Well, Dr. Franklin had been tending to this Pet her entire life and had developed a trusting, and straightforward rapport with her family.
Following a thorough examination, he concluded that not only had her quality of life diminished, but also that moving would be far too stressful. His findings only served to confirm what her Petparent already knew.
Then both longtime Petparent and longtime Veterinarian bid a peaceful and humane goodbye to the Pet who had been such a comfort to the adored spouse.
Finally, out of respect for this dear Petparent’s wishes, a custom private cremation was performed by Agape Pet Services so this wonderful Pet’s ashes could be scattered on her “Best Friend's” grave right before sadly leaving both loved ones behind here in Hagerstown...
